Synopsis

Based on events revealed in recently declassified CIA files, ‘Argo’ chronicles the extraordinary behind-the-scenes drama of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, in which CIA ‘exfiltration’ specialist Tony Mendez was tasked with a daring rescue. While 52 Americans are held captive in the US Embassy in Tehran, six others escape to the home of the Canadian ambassador, aware that their absence will eventually be noticed. Tough renegade Mendez develops an unlikely plan involving a fast-talking Hollywood duo that unfolds in a race against time that will have your pulse rising and palms sweating. The dramatic tension is skillfully balanced with sharp satire about the movie industry, providing light relief from the intensity of the heart-racing rescue operation. Oscar-winner Ben Affleck stars and directs, marking his triumphant third directorial effort, while Alan Arkin, John Goodman and Bryan Cranston shine in supporting roles. ‘Argo’ is a riveting political thriller in the hands of a great director.
