Synopsis
It’s 1993 and the siege of Sarajevo is in full swing. Today is Selma’s sixth birthday and, unable to find anything more appropriate, her father sends – of all things – a live chicken as a present. Selma is perfectly content with her gift, but when she realises the bird is destined to become her birthday dinner, she is determined to rescue it from its fate. But simple actions can have unexpected consequences in wartime. ‘The Chicken’ was an official selection in the Cannes Critics’ Week.
About the Director
Una Gunjak was born in Sarajevo in 1986. In 2008 she completed a BA in Film Studies at the Università degli Studi di Torino, Italy and in 2010 she completed an MA in Editing at the National Film and Television School in the UK. ‘The Chicken’, had its official premiere at the Cannes’ Critics’ Week in 2014.
