Phantom Boy
Ajyal Competition - Ajyal Youth Film Festival 2015
Synopsis
Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli, the writer-director team behind 2010’s Academy Award-nominated ‘A Cat in Paris’ are back with ‘Phantom Boy’, another delightfully stylish animated feature that has been five years in the making.
Eleven-year-old Leo is very ill and needs to spend time in hospital. While he is undergoing treatment, he discovers that if he closes his eyes, he can leave his body for a short time, go anywhere and see anything – he can even pass through walls like a ghost. In the same hospital, a policeman named Alex is admitted after a run-in with a mobster who has threatened to take over New York City and intensify his dastardly doings. Confined to a wheelchair, Alex is unable to get out into the field – and what’s more, Mary, the woman he loves, is in danger.
Phantom Boy to the rescue! When Alex’s street smarts are paired up with Leo’s mysterious power, the duo hatch a plan to thwart the villain’s scheming and deliver Mary from danger. Along the way, Leo shows us that being a hero is not just about special abilities – it’s about co-operation, determination and placing the needs of others ahead of our own.
