Synopsis

After winning the TED prize in 2011, French photographer JR expressed his wish to “change the world” by turning it ‘inside out’. Inspired by JR’s giant open-air displays of black and white portraits, INSIDE OUT soon became the world’s largest participatory art project in the world, and
a truly global call to action. From Haiti to Tunisia, Ecuador to Nepal; from Mexico to Palestine, South Dakota to the streets of Paris, entire communities have raised their voices about important causes by pasting vast portraits in the streets, on buildings, on bridges and on
rooftops.
Through this deceptively simple act, walls cease to be barriers, becoming canvases or colossal placards where people can speak their mind on themes such as diversity, tolerance, peace, awareness about violence and climate change, sometimes even getting themselves into
hot water because of their statements.
Director Alastair Siddons follows JR as he travels the globe, filming the photographer as he motivates and supports different communities. The result is an inspirational documentary that is at once intimate and
epic, as it captures a breathtaking urban landscape while reflecting on the power of art change our lives and transform our world.
