Synopsis

Not yet 16, Adele has been married off as a child bride to a friend of the family. Her much older husband gave his word he would not touch her until she was of age, but breaking that promise has led to trouble. Now faced with discovery by school authorities, the family decides on a terrible solution. ‘Adele’ is a sobering look at the mistreatment of girls at the hands of those who believe women do not have basic human rights.

About the Director

Mirene Igwabi was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 1996, at the age of four, her family took refuge from Congo’s civil war. In 2007, she moved to Australia. While studying Business at university, she began creating YouTube videos, which led to travelling around Australia with Flavor N’abania, one of Africa’s biggest musical acts. During these tours, she discovered a love for film, and began studies at the SAE Creative Media Institute. ‘Adele’ is her graduation film.
