Kid-Friendly Family Activities start Wednesday, October 26 at Katara Cultural Village
Doha, October 25, 2011 –In the lead-up to Family Day at this year’s Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF),Katara Cultural Village will transform into a hive of creativity and culture, featuring live performances, games and art activities catered specifically for families and kids.
The official Family Day is Friday, October 28, but the fun starts Wednesday, October 26, when Katara opens its doors to families starting at 4pm with a wide range of activities.
From 4-10 pm daily, DFI Cinemas Family Centre will feature falconry demonstrations, workshops, and arcade games for youngsters. Al Yazaf family courtyard, located by buildings 18 and 19, will hold stage presentations and performances, and the Al-Ibdaa Family Courtyard by buildings 29 and 30 will host screenings, workshops and activities.
A special performance by ‘India’s Got Talent’ sensations Suresh and Vernon’s 20-piece dance troupe will wow crowds with their awe-inspiring moves on October 27. Performances will also be staged by students fromlocal schools, as well as foosball and football shootouts from Qatar Stars League, scenes from the latest production by the Doha Players, and selections by the Doha Community Orchestra, the Desert Dance Troupe,and Doha Musical Theater.
A “Passport to Fun” will guide everyone through the varied and delightful experiences of the official Family Day, which will run from 2pm to midnight on October 28. From arts and crafts, performances, workshops, games, screenings, stage performances, sports and more, each and every experience will be an opportunity for local families and children to celebrate Qatari culture and community.
In addition, there will be three kids’ film screenings: at 6pm, festival goers will get a sneak peek at The Adventures of Tintin a full two months ahead of its international release. Also, at 6pm, DFI and Miramax will present a special 10 year anniversary screening of Spykids at the Katara Open Air Theatre. At 7 pm, Cat in Boots(Puss in Boots) will screen at Katara Opera House with international superstar Antonio Banderas in attendance.
For coverage of Family Day activities, a reporting team of students aged 9-13 will cover all the family-friendly events and produce blogs, reviews and features supported by camera crews from Qatar University. Their work will be uploadeddaily onto DFI’s official website so Festival goers can keep up to date on what is on offer.
