Doha, Qatar; November 17, 2012: Doha Film Institute (DFI), an independent cultural organisation established in 2010 to incorporate Qatar’s film initiatives under one banner, has officially launched the DFI Smartphone Application aimed at strengthening audience engagement and awareness on the Institute’s year-round initiatives and its flagship celebration, Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF).
Available to users across iPad, iPhone, and Android devices, the smartphone application provides film enthusiasts and audiences with an extensive festival almanac comprising film screening and events schedule, the festival map, in addition to updates on DFI’s ambitious initiatives and vignettes on the Middle East’s cinematic landscape.
Abdulaziz Al Khater, Chief Executive Officer, Doha Film Institute, said: “The various initiatives of Doha Film Institute are focused on strengthening film appreciation among our local community in addition to strengthening a grassroots film industry. Through innovative platforms, we are maximising our outreach to the community and engaging them with the various initiatives that we undertake throughout the year. Innovation and creativity are part of our ethos, and we will continue to explore opportunities to further strengthen engagement with our stakeholders.”
Mobile phone and tablet users can create personalised schedules for DTFF through their ‘My DFI’ accounts and sync it across various mobile- and web-based platforms. The application will also provide smartphone users with the ability to scan the QRCs on flyers and film guides, to gain access to the information at the touch of a button.
Through the course of the Festival, users stand to win an array of prizes by logging on to the ‘Contest’ section of the application, and trying their luck at the daily mobile challenge.
Smartphone users can download the DFI application through the respective app stores – iTunes Store tor Google Play. Additionally, the application can also be downloaded from https://www.dohafilminstitute.com/mobile
