Fall Grants 2018
Synopsis
In the winter of 2018, a team of young reporters takes over Maktaris News: Soumaya, Noor, Raoua, Fadi and Hamdi. Every three years, the radio coach Badis creates a new team when the older students leave the village to study in the big cities. This year is a special one, a most difficult one; the revolution is long gone, the initial enthusiasm has faded. But Badis stays put, devoted and passionate, even if sacrificing his personal life. His wife is pushing him to pass the torch on to someone else. Every Saturday morning, the group and their coach start a new adventure; they gather in the only youth centre in the city, the Makhtar News studio. Around a mixing console, they improvise an editorial meeting like professionals, but with loads of laughs and shouting, even if the themes are serious; they do not hesitate to tackle Tunisia’s most delicate and painful issues, like corruption and poverty. Ignoring their parents’ fears or some residents’ disapproval, they roam around the region, always on the lookout for their next news story.
