'The Virgin, the Copts and Me' in Berlinale 2012

Feb 13, 2012

DFI grantee and winner of the DTFF 2011 award for Best Arab Documentary, ‘The Virgin, the Copts and Me’ is screening in Panorama and will also have one market screening. Namir Abdul Messeeh will be attending to represent his film. DFI co-production ‘Just Like a Woman’ by Rachid Bouchareb is also screening in Market. International sales for both films are being handled by Doc and Film International.

‘The Virgin, the Copts and Me’

Namir is a French filmmaker of Egyptian origin. One day he watches a videotape of the Virgin Mary’s apparition in Egypt with his mother who, like millions of other Copts (Egypt’s Christians), sees the virgin on the screen while he sees nothing. Skeptical about the videotape, Namir travels back to Egypt, to make a film about the bizarre occurrence of these apparitions.
