Film: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Year: 2011
Director: David Yates
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ was released in Doha on July 13, much to the anticipation of a large fan community filling all theatres. This time, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) – now talented wizards – continue their quest of finding and destroying the Dark Lord’s three remaining Horcruxes, the magical items responsible for his immortality. But Voldemort finds out about their mission, and a battle begins. The Harry Potter /Voldemort enmity – reflected as the forces of good and evil – unleashes ferocious battles and major sacrifices.

It is a bitter farewell for Harry Potter fans, and surely the cast, too. The cast that started off as kids are now grown-up superstars!

In this closing sequence, Voldemort’s defiance is risking our young wizards’ very existence as they collect the Horcruxes. And with every step, danger rises with life-changing discoveries.

You’ll see battles with magic, dragons, spiders and giants. You can’t expect a finale without grandiosity! But regardless of the magnificent visual effects, the story remains true to the characters. The motivation of the protagonists keeps the story flowing in both action and human experience simultaneously.

No matter how many wars and fights the film shows, people will keep developing a fear on the fate of their favourite characters. And as the situation develops, dark secrets are revealed that will change the way you see the characters of the whole series forever. If you haven’t seen the rest of the films yet, make sure to run the marathon of ‘Harry Potter’ films before you hit the cinema!

The plot and the characters mature to shift our point of view on the perspective of good and bad. There is no categorical separation of these forces except for Voldemort, who represents absolute evil, and is beautifully played by the amazing Ralph Fiennes. You can feel his excellence in acting with his hissing sound and large theatrical gestures, making him the only true force of darkness. Fighting the black and white views of things, the film alters into a more realistic approach of human nature.

Another highlight of this film is re-visiting some familiar locations dating back to the first film. It looks like a retrospective tribute to the maturity and development of both the story and its characters.

This long-adored pop franchise of wizards has come for the closure of a decade.
The final book in the series, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, became the fastest selling book in history for both children and young adults. This led to the release of two editions of each Harry Potter book with the same text and different covers: one for children, and the other for the older generation.

The last book turned into two films that kept the world impatiently-yet-sadly waiting for the finale of the ‘Harry Potter’ saga.

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ is the first film to be released in both 3D and 2D, and you can pick your visual dimension viewing preferences in local theatres. Make sure to remember, however, that the film has been rated PG-13 for some sequences of intense action/violence and frightening images.

Whether a fan of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise or not, you can’t disregard the popularity of these films, which have become the top-grossing franchise of all time. It all started with a manuscript exploring the captivating world of magic, adapted onto the big screen in 2001 as ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’, and it ends now, with ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’.

It created a ‘Harry Potter’ culture in modern history: soon-to-be classics. So make sure to live the farewell buzz of this enchanting journey, now playing in Doha!
