Hekayat Khaleejiya (Khaleeji Stories) Screens Four Award-winning Short Films this October

Doha, 1 October, 2013: Doha Film Institute’s (DFI) year round series, Hekayat Khaleejiya; a film appreciation programme that showcases Khaleeji films within the Doha community and help encourage film production in Qatar and throughout the Gulf region, returns for the fourth time with the screening of four award-winning short films; ‘This is London’ (UEA), ‘Sabeel’ (UAE), ‘Sanctity’ (KSA) and ‘Bader’ (Qatar). The screenings will take place between11 and 12h of October at the Museum of Islamic (MIA) and will be followed by Q&A session with filmmakers to gain insight into their work and process.

‘This is London’, directed by Mohammed Rashed BuAli, was selected as one of the 24 most promising Asian directors for participation in the Asian Film Academy. He won the British Council’s 2012 Young Creative Entrepreneur Award and his film was a 3rd Prize Winner in the Official Short Film Competition at Gulf Film Festival 5th edition in Dubai.

‘Sabeel’, directed by Khalid Al Mahmood, has won various awards including the Golden Prize for short films in 7th Festival International Du Film Oriental De Genève 2012, Best Short Fiction, Best Screenplay, Best Director at the 1st GCC Film Festival 2012, Best Script and 1st Prize Gulf Film Competition at the 4th Gulf Film Festival 2011 and the Emirati Muhr 2nd Prize at the 7th Dubai International Film Festival.

‘Sanctity’, directed by Saudi actress and filmmaker Ahd who was recently a jury member for the Emirates film competition in Abu Dhabi. The film won the 2012 DTFF Arab Shorts Competition Development Award and ‘Bader’, directed by Sara Al-Saadi, Maaria Assami and Latifa Al-Darwish, won the 2012 DTFF Made in Qatar Development Award.

Tickets are now on sale online at www.dohafilminstitute.com/hekayat or in person at the DFI Ticket Outlet at the Museum of Islamic Art (across the auditorium) from 11 October from 2:00pm to 8:00pm and 12 October from 12:00pm to 8:00pm. Tickets are priced at QAR 35 and QAR 25 for students. (Students must present a valid student ID to receive a discount and there is a maximum of two discounted tickets per person. Discounts are only available at the ticket outlet locations).

‘Hekayat Khaleejiya’ is a quarterly screening series dedicated to showcasing cinematic voices from the Gulf region. Taking place at the Museum of Islamic Art, the series presents films accompanied by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. It’s a great chance to gain insight into their work and process.
