Film: Side by Side

It’s Day Three! Ajyal continues to provide fascinating, enlightening and entertaining world cinema with two special screenings this evening. To mark the end of theDoha Film Institute’s recent year of showcasing cinema from the UK in tandem with the Qatar-UK Year of Culture, Ajyal presents a screening of Arthur Landon’s ‘Side by Side’, the charming coming-of-age tale of a brother and sister’s cross-country journey to find their long-lost grandfather. Looking forward to next year’s Qatar-Brazil 2014 celebrations, the screening also features Brazilian director William Côgo’s ‘Carioca Soul’, an animated look at choro music, a style that emerged in Rio de Janeiro and that came to represent Brazil’s social and racial diversity.

Much-loved local Filipino director Jan Xavier Pacle, whose ‘Angel in June’ made a big splash at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival last year, returns with a free screening of ‘A Shout from Within’, a film written by students of the Philippine School of Doha. On this occasion, Ajyal will be collecting donations for the Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts – please come and support this urgent cause. Please note that seating is limited.
