Doha Film Institute has just learnt that “The 99” will launch on air via MBC3 and online via Yahoo! Maktoob throughout the Middle East and North Africa region.
Twenty-six episodes of the animated series will be shown on consecutive nights starting the first night of Ramadan and then later rebroadcast by MBC3 on a weekly basis and on-demand via the Internet through the Yahoo! Maktoob portal.
“Not long ago, MBC and Yahoo! Maktoob were start-ups in a vast ocean of opportunity and danger. Today, MBC is the largest broadcaster in the Arab world and Yahoo! Maktoob is the largest Arab online portal,” said “The 99” creator Naif Al-Mutawa. “Each is a great success story of Middle East media. The fact that MBC and Yahoo! have chosen to work together to raise THE 99 to their own lofty heights speaks volumes, as does our gratitude for their confidence.” DFI interviewed Dr Naif just over a week ago. We talked about the series and mythology, and why the omnipresent Batman is his favourite superhero.
Congrats to “The 99” team!
